Therapy for Teens

Psychotherapy Session

Nurturing Young Adults as They Strive for Independence

Raising happy, healthy, independent adults is always the goal, but giving teens the support they need can be taxing on any parent. The adolescent and teen years are tough for many young people and their loved ones. If you’re not sure how to give your child the care they need or you’ve tried to help them and feel stressed or hopeless, the Cortes Counseling team can help. Our knowledgeable counselors offer therapy for teens in Bethany, CT and our surrounding communities, and we partner with parents and teenagers to achieve their goals to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. You can learn more about therapy for adolescents and teens below, and our team members would love to hear from you when you’re ready to get started.

Why Should I Consider Therapy for My Teenager?

The teenage years can be some of the most stressful and tumultuous. The body is going through a lot of difficult changes, and just about any teenager will find themselves feeling a little out of control from time to time as they navigate this challenging developmental period. Our counselors know what it’s like to find yourself experiencing a range of feelings and thoughts that are new and exciting but also scary and overwhelming. Within themselves, teens are dealing with these constantly changing emotions and thoughts. Outside of themselves, teens deal with the stress to perform well in school, athletics, and extracurriculars; find the right college or career path; establish and maintain healthy relationships; understand and accept changes related to sexuality; and develop their own self-identity. Simply put, it’s a tough time, and teens may need to talk with one of our therapists who can help them move through the challenging times to become the happiest and healthiest versions of who they are.

What Happens During Therapy Sessions for Teens?

Our skilled therapists will meet young people exactly where they are. We understand what teens are going through – we were all teens ourselves once. When adolescents and teens come to visit us, we take the time to get to know their specific situation. Then, we work with the young person to achieve any goal that brought them into our office. That may involve learning to communicate more effectively, developing skills to cope with difficult situations, gaining self-awareness and self-acceptance, and increasing resilience. We partner with young adults to develop the skills that will help them lead lives filled with more joy and fulfillment and less stress and frustration.
